ETS and Randburg in an action-packed draw

RUIMSIG – Fast-paced, action-packed football as women's teams take each other on.

Education Through Soccer (ETS)  women’s team faced off against Randburg Association Football Club (RAFC)  in an action packed match hosted by ETS on 26 May.

The ETS women placed top of the log in Division 2 of the Rand Central Local Football Association Winter League last year and as such are a tough side to beat. ETS marched onto the pitch for the District Soccer League Division 1 match to be met by a tough attacking side from Randburg. The end result was a 3–3 draw with both sides sporting incredibly talented and fast players which proved to be the perfect ingredients for an intense match.

Possession is held by Randburg as ETS closes in on defence.

Randburg was the first to score but ETS managed to equalise shortly thereafter. A few misplaced passes by ETS saw Randburg take the lead 2–1. However, ETS showed determination and scored a goal shortly afterwards to make it 2–2. Both teams had a couple of injuries and made two substitutes each before Randburg’s Precious Putu put her side 3–2 ahead. ETS’ perseverance paid off late in the second half as they equalised for a third time.

The players give their all in the close encounter.

The rest of the match saw both teams desperately fighting for the winning goal. Alas, the final whistle blew for an eventual draw.

ETS coach Tyrone de Villiers said, “We played very well despite having a developing team with new players who still need to be worked into the team.”

Randburg’s coach, Theo Buttress, agreed. “We came here with a particular strategy in mind; to play and shoot from the midfield, which proved to be successful. We conceded some soft goals and need to work on our communication.”

He concluded that to draw against ETS was a good start to the season.
