Expect road closures ahead of annual Jura and Juma

EMMARENTIA/ALBERTS FARM – Various intersections and roads will be affected from 5am until about 1pm.

With two major annual sporting events around the corner, here’s all you need to know about road closures and where you can stop if you are a supporter.

The Hollard Jozi Urban Run Adventure (Jura) on 27 May and the Hollard Jozi Urban Mountain Bike Adventure (Juma) on 28 May have fewer road closures than last year with routes predominantly off-road.

If you want to support cyclists participating in the Juma, you can visit these points.

“We have worked closely with the City of Johannesburg to minimise the impact on residents,” said event spokesperson Kelly Fraser.

Russell Willis of Bam Events and Experiences, the owners and organisers of the two races, said every year they aimed to make the experience for the public and the participants better.

“We are always looking to improve our routes to prevent any inconvenience to residents,” he said. “We thank you for all the support and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Various intersections from Emmarentia to Alberts Farm will either be fully closed, half closed or have a scaffolding bridge over.

Roads will be closed from 5am and start opening from 1pm.

If you are looking to support en-route there are a variety of spectator points available on both days marked on the maps below, make sure to pop past Emmarentia Dam to watch runners and riders crossing the 120m floating bridge, or join the the Duck Tunnel Techno Party.

If you want to support runners participating in the Jura, you can visit these points.

The Duck Tunnel Techno Party has been organised by local residents and will take place at the Juma on 28 May from 8am.

“They will be supporting the riders with music and good vibes at the Duck Tunnel. The Duck Tunnel is located on Beyers Naude Drive next to the Roosevelt Park Fire Station,” Fraser said.

If you are not the sporty type, you can still check out all the action at the Hollard Adventure Weekend Race Day Village, which features a mini obstacle course for children on 27 May, a children’s mountain bike race on 28 May and SAB beer garden and Gig Rig, Joburg’s top food stalls and much more all weekend long.
