Teddy Bear Clinic educates hospital staff ahead of Child Protection Week
OLIVEDALE – Items donated by the hospital staff members were handed over to Teddy Bear Clinic.
Netcare Olivedale Hospital and Teddy Bear Clinic joined forces ahead of Child Protection Week to highlight the ongoing problem of child abuse within the community.
On 11 May the hospital hosted its special joint annual event with Teddy Bear Clinic where staff members handed over donations that would benefit the children who were supported by the clinic.
“Our hospital has had a long relationship with Teddy Bear Clinic, a non-profit organisation that provides a range of invaluable support services to abused children and which seeks to accompany these vulnerable young people on a step by step journey to healing,” said Netcare Olivedale hospital patient liaison officer Deborah Sieff.
“This year our staff once again made an immense effort to collect and donate soft toys, stationery, toiletry items, baby bottles and many other items to the Teddy Bear Clinic, which is doing such wonderful work within the community,” she said.

Teddy Bear Clinic donor liaison officer Dalene Bishop said the Teddy Bear Foundation was one of the few organisations that have specialised in providing holistic services to children who have been abused.
She addressed nurses on child abuse and highlighted the various services offered by the organisation.
“We have been in existence since 1986 and have developed a wealth of knowledge, resources and practical experience across various professions within the child protection field,” explained Bishop.
“We are an NPO which does not charge for its services and always appreciate the support of the community and institutions such as Netcare Olivedale Hospital. Anyone who would like to sponsor a child on their journey to healing should please not hesitate to contact us,” added Bishop.
Sieff said Teddy Bear Clinic played a critical role within the community and the hospital was always willing to support them in any way possible.
“I would like to thank our staff members of the hospital for the considerable effort they put into raising donations to assist Teddy Bear Clinic and the children in its care, as well as Teddy Bear Clinic for assisting us in those cases where our precious youngsters have been abused. This is an organisation that deserves and needs the community’s support,” concluded Sieff.
