Rand Park Grade 8’s unite under one tree
RANDPARK RIDGE– The tradition of planting a tree has stood as a strong connection to the school.
Grade 8’s of Rand Park High School celebrated World Earth Day by planting a tree.
The tradition has been passed down to each Rand Park Grade 8 class at the beginning of the year and is always well received.
It is a special occasion for the learners because they are able to watch the tree grow as they go through their high school career.
This year on World Earth Day a goal was set to plant 7.8 billion trees by 2020, one for every person projected to be on Earth. By simply planting one tree, the learners have contributed to their community and helped to make the Earth green again.
The learners’ representative council came forward to help plant the indigenous Acacia thorn tree with two spades and lots of soil. The Acacia has many uses, is drought and fire resistant and can grow to a height of 18m.
This was the third year the school celebrated World Earth Day by planting a tree.
