A man believed to between the age of 20 and 30 was found in a critical condition on Mikro Lane, Randburg, in the early hours of 6 March.
It is believed that the man was found by ADT Security Services who then notified the police of the incident.
At the time of their arrival, ER24 paramedics found the man lying on the ground, face down.
He had sustained multiple injuries to his head, nose and jaw.
The patient was transported to Mediclinic Sandton to be stabilised.
After about 10 minutes of resuscitation at the hospital, the man was declared dead.
Randburg Police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said an inquest docket was opened and the investigation continues.
