Elderly woman critical after being shot on her driveway in Weltevreden Park
Elderly Welties woman shot several times in what appeared as an ambush
Paramedics have found a critically injured 68-year-old woman lying in her driveway after being shot several times by unknown suspects on 6 February.
The incident took place at the victim’s home in Thorn Avenue, Weltevreden Park, after she had entered her premises.
The motive at stage is unknown, but it is understood that the woman had been approached by a number of armed men as she drove into her driveway.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found the elderly woman lying in the garden.
“A paramedic from another service had already begun to assess the patient,” said Meiring
“Upon assessment, paramedics found that the woman had sustained several gunshot wounds and was in a critical condition,” he said.
He added that the patient was treated and advance life support interventions were initiated.
“Once stable, paramedics transported the woman under advanced life support supervision to a private hospital in Johannesburg, for urgent treatment,” he explained.
