‘We will claim back our community’

A Merry Christmas from Ward 98's councillor.

Ward 98 councillor Beverley Weweje, wishes residents a Merry Christmas:

The year 2016 will be remembered as a year when residents of the City of Johannesburg spoke out against a failing administration, bad service delivery, crumbling infrastructure and corruption.

My inauguration on 22 August as ward councillor for Ward 98, left me with an inherited legacy of 20 years of environmental degradation in my community. The community of ward 98 has given me a loud and clear message that they want their homes back without the degradation, the criminal elements and bad service delivery.

As Christmas rapidly approaches, I do not have the usual Christmas list, but rather a list which represents a plan of action to claim back our community. While our community is plagued with drug peddlers, bylaw offenders and dilapidated buildings, I am infused with hope. Hope brought on by the number of community members and organisations who have come along and offered assistance in the mammoth task of reclaiming our community.

As we enter this period of good cheer and festivities, my request to residents is to be a gift to your environment, neighbours and community. Keep your surrounds clean, respect your neighbours’ rights to a peaceful holiday.

Public indecency, public drinking, public urination and disturbance of the peace are offences that are considered to be criminal and punishable offences.

My wish to every resident is that you will have a safe and peaceful time over this period of rest and that you enter 2017 with renewed energy.
