Ward 117 councillor gives a year-end message

WARD 117 – Truluck thanked the residents for supporting and encouraging him throughout the year.

Councillor Tim Truluck wished Ward 117 residents a prosperous festive season and reflected on his experience throughout the year.

“The year has turned out to be a momentous year in Johannesburg. For the first time in the democratic era, the African National Congress (ANC) was voted out of power in the city,” said Truluck.

He continued, “Changes will take a while to come. Policies have to be evaluated and rewritten, departments have to be turned around, a skills audit is being carried out, a new work ethic has to be instilled in municipal employees and corruption has been declared enemy number one.”

According to the councillor, there is a new energy among the officials who are willing to work.

“Being a ward councillor amid all this upheaval is exciting. The eventual aim is to have a city that works, is transparent and both pro-poor and supportive of the business community. None of this will come easily and none will come quickly. But it will come and I am so glad that I am part of this change along with the residents.”

Truluck thanked the community for all their support and encouragement over the past year.

“I am really looking forward to the next five years and the exciting changes that are coming. My biggest wish is that residents should get involved in their community.”

Truluck urged community members to join their local residents association, community policing forum, Friends of the Library, park user group, river clean-up group, political party, local non-governmental organisations, religious groups, homeless shelter, animal rescue group and recreational centre club.

“In this way, they will be contributing to the betterment of the community around them. Projects coming up in the ward are working towards eradicating illegal dumping, looking after our green spaces and parks, new parks in Rosebank, a new parking deck at the zoo, improving transport links and walkability as well as cyclability in the ward.”
