Joburg to host Global Entrepreneur Congress

JOBURG – Read about a first for Africa...

Being an entrepreneur creates a world of possibilities.
This was said by Global Entrepreneurship Network president, Jonathan Ortmans, who will bring the Global Entrepreneurship Congress to Johannesburg next year in March – a first for Africa.
Ortmans, while recently in Johannesburg, said ordinary citizens should be given the platform to determine their future through entrepreneurship.
The congress will gather leaders from around the world where entrepreneurs, visitors, researchers, policymakers and other start-up champions get a platform to work together.
According to the City, the congress is an inter-disciplinary gathering of successful entrepreneurs from more than 150 countries which will attract more than 4 000 delegates. It is a gathering of thought leaders from around the world and also focuses on how best to help entrepreneurs start and scale new companies.
The MMC for Economic Development, Sharon Peetz, said entrepreneurs in Johannesburg and the rest of the country would have the opportunity to showcase their skills, talent and innovations. “It is important that the City continues to find innovative ways to create sustainable jobs through entrepreneurship,” she said.
“It is through innovation that Johannesburg as South Africa’s economic hub would continue to play a critical role in the global discourse. This is a journey that we should walk together as a team. We should continue to support those ideas that seek to make our lives better. The City will continue to support innovative entrepreneurs.”
The precursor to the congress next year, Global Entrepreneurship Week, was launched on 11 November at the Sandton Convention Centre and will carry on until 20 November.
