Police on the lookout for two suspects in an attempted burglary case

BORDEAUX - Randburg police investigate a case of attempted burglary after an incident happened in Bordeaux.

Randburg police are investigating a case of attempted burglary after a Bordeaux woman was almost burgled in her home.

According to the Randburg Police Station spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja, a woman answered the ring of the intercom and went outside to see who was at the gate. “She encountered two gentlemen who asked for old electrical appliances. She had a few items she wanted to give away, so she went inside the house and returned with an old stove, which she gave to them through the gate,” said Maja.

He explained that the woman then left her house and shortly after that she received a call from her security company who informed her that her alarm had been triggered. Maja added that when the woman arrived back at her house she found the door had been forced open but nothing was taken.

“We are appealing to residents to be very careful with people pressing the intercoms, as they may be dangerous. They might be either begging or checking whether there is anyone at home and if not, they break in. If they do find someone, they create a story so they can get away,” Maja said.

He gave the following tips:

  •  Secure all your doors and windows and make sure they are always locked
  •  Light up your home and garden. Use timers and ensure that when not at home, curtains are closed, especially at night
  •  Always test your alarm system to ensure that it works
  •  Store keys safely away from windows and doors. Preferably, keep them on you.
