A heart which keeps on giving

HONEYDEW – Miss Earth semi-finalist and Speedy Speed feed the children of Kingsway Christian School.

Miss Earth 2016 semi-finalist, Bhijal Parbhoo, who is also running for Miss Inspire South Africa 2017, and the Speedy Speed Foundation, put smiles on the faces of Kingsway Christian School pupils.

Parbhoo and the foundation, which focuses on making a positive difference in both the lives of the youth and adults, fed 255 children at the school in Honeydew. As the children are only given one meal a day from the school, Parbhoo and her team worked together and provided an additional meal of hot dogs, crisps and juice.

“Just to see the appreciation each child had for the food that we provided showed that this was definitely a luxury for them,” Parbhoo said.

She first started helping Kingsway during her programme as a semi-finalist for Miss Earth 2016 through planting trees and giving educational talks.

Not being a finalist has not stopped Parbhoo from continuing what she has learnt from the programme and now she uses the it as a basis to guide her on a positive life path. Parbhoo goes by Mahatma Gandhi’s famous saying, ‘The best way to love yourself is to find yourself in the service of others’.

This is why every Friday, Parbhoo continues to visit Kingsway for a buddy book programme and assists the school where she can. Kingsway Christian School forms part of the Kingsway Centre of Concern, which also consists of Thandanani House of Refuge which assists the children from Zandspruit Informal Settlement.
