Train expo returns for more train madness

RANDPARK RIDGE – The Great Train Model Expo is set to bring out your inner child...

RANDBURG – Choo choo, all aboard, the Great Train Model Expo is back once more and will highlight all things locomotive.

The expo, to be hosted at Randburg High School on 8 and 9 October, is organised by two train enthusiasts who believe that the locomotive industry has much more to offer.

Rinke Blok of the Model Train Shop in Randpark Ridge and Marinus Kort of the N Gauge Guild said the expo was for everyone who had a keen interest in model trains. “There will be steam to diesel trains on display and [the expo] will feature train designs from the late 1800s until modern times. It is quite interesting to see how the trains have evolved over the years,” said Blok.

Kort pointed out that the expo would be a fun experience for all who attended as there would be various gauges and sizes of trains on exhibit.

“This expo aims to expose the children of today to a different type of hobby that will take them away from TV games as it has different disciplines such as woodwork, landscaping and electrical work. There is something for everyone,” Kort added.

Tickets will be R30 for adults and R15 for children.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Cancer Association of South Africa and Reef Steamers, a Section 21 company.
