The Randburg Police Station is going through several changes, one of which is the change of sector managers.
Captain George Maphosa will be taking over from Captain Vincent Hlongwane for Sector 1, Captain Solomon Ndala will take over from Captain Ndlolo for Sector 2 and Captain Gerry Maluleke will hand over the reigns to Captain Heinrich van Heerden for Sector 3.
The Randburg Sun caught up with Van Heerden to find out how he feels about the new challenges ahead. Van Heerden said that throughout his childhood, he dreamed of being a policeman and serving his community and, 25 years ago, he took that step and started his training to become a policeman.
“I first joined the army and then the police force. It was while the country was transitioning and there was a lot of chaos,” he reminisced. He explained that any policeman who wants to climb up through the ranks must be dedicated to the job, show hard work and discipline.
The father of two boys explained that his family supported him 100 per cent and that when he was not on the job he spent time with his two boys helping them with homework and school projects.
He described himself as someone who is quiet, goal-driven and always goes out of his way to help people. “It really makes my day when I put a smile on someone’s face,” Van Heerden beamed.
Previously he worked at the Douglasdale Police Station but has returned to Randburg Police Station where he was the manager for sectors 1 and 2. He added that he looked forward to tackling crime in the Randburg area.
