ADT officer shot dead

FONTAINEBLEAU – Witnesses saw two people fleeing the scene.

A 42-year-old ADT reaction officer was gunned down last night (19 September) outside the Fontainebleau Village shopping centre.

According to Linden Police spokesperson, Captain Walter Spencer the man was killed on the corner of Rabie Street and Fourthlane South at about 10pm.

The officer was robbed of his firearm and shot dead. It is unclear at this stage whether he was shot with his own pistol.

Theunis Kotze, general manager of ADT inland region said, “We are currently gathering evidence and working with the police to ascertain exactly what happened.”

“We urge anyone with information regarding this incident to please come forward to the police,” added Spencer. Two witnesses explained to the police that they saw two men jump into a blue double-cab bakkie.

“We send our deepest condolences to his family at this very sad time and are working with a trauma counsellor to provide support for the officer’s family and friends,” said Kotze.

A case of murder and robbery was opened at the station.
