CPF fun run success

HONEYDEW – The best attendance yet is seen at the Honeydew CPF Fun Run.

The Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) Fun Run raised much-needed funds for the Honeydew Police Station’s trauma centre.

The fun run is an annual social event whereby members of the community and their four-legged friends participated in a 5km run on 10 September.

CPF community liaison, Jon Rosenberg, discussed the role that the forum plays in the community. “The trauma centre at Honeydew Police Station serves victims affected by crime. It is a free service, but we have to pay our counsellors and this is only possible through donations.”

Each participant paid a small entry fee which went towards raising funds for the centre. Security companies set up stands and also paid a donation. Boerewors rolls were donated by the Palm Court Spar and were sold to raise funds for the centre.

“I am really happy to say we more than doubled the participants from last year. We had 116 participants last year and 261 this year,” added Rosenberg.

Defending team champions, Beagle Watch, came first in the team section. Community Support Services placed second with Team Kelly coming in third. The women’s category saw Rachel Kruger place first followed by Mikayla Nash in second and Natasha Kelly in third.

The men’s section saw last year’s winner, Sheraaz Snyman, successfully defend his title. Matimba Ngobdni came in second with Avhurengwi Ndou in a close third.

In total, the event raised a whopping R7 310 in comparison to the R3 762 raised last year.

Ward 126 councillor David Brand said that events like these bring the community together and are successful in raising funds.
