On a mission to curb youth unemployment

BORDEAUX–Graduate establishes personal branding workshop in order to curb the high youth unemployment rate.

Entrepreneur, Nandile Mlambo, has made it her mission to curb the high youth unemployment rate, through the training she received at Vega School.

The Bachelor of Arts in Brand Leadership graduate created an innovative checklist that helps graduates prepare for job interviews in the corporate world. Mlambo’s checklist was created as part of her honours thesis, which was approved by recruiters.

She said she took an interest to combine her skills in television production from her junior degree and the art of brand building to become an innovative entrepreneur in the media industry. “I was inspired to target unemployment graduates because South Africa has the highest youth unemployment rate among other developing countries.

“My vision is to empower young people through personal development programmes that equip them to become renowned pioneers in their chosen career fields.”

She added, through her checklist, she was inspired to create the ‘I am a Brand’ personal branding workshops, that also targets unemployed youth. In addition, it helps in sharing in-depth insights about the type of etiquette expected by potential employers, which she believes young people may not be aware of.

“I’ve had various young people thank me for giving them guidance and pointers on how to prepare and present themselves for interviews. Many youths have also reached out to me, asking me to come and inform their peers at high schools and universities on personal branding,” explained Mlambo.

Nicky Stanley, national marketing manager for Vega School said that Mlambo certainly has the experience, training and vigour and they are proud of her achievements.
