Bertha Scheepers, marketing and communications operations manager of Joburg Roads Agency (JRA), confirmed, “The company Huawei will be responsible for reinstating the road. Should the road not be properly reinstated or rubble from the work not be removed, the JRA regional depot wayleaves unit will conduct an inspection with JMPD and issue a notice and possibly a fine to the contractor with the instruction that the rubble is to be removed.”

However, as of 13 August, resident Mark Gathercole confirms that the rubble was removed and the verge has been restored. The front of his personal property has been rehabilitated as Huawei promised.

“The Huawei subcontractors were very supportive and did try their best,” Gathercole added.

Details: Joburg Roads Agency, 086 056 2874.
