Behind the scenes with Kojo

NORTH RIDING - Kojo Baffoe explains the phenomenon that is his life.

Former Destiny Man editor, Miss South Africa judge, presenter, producer, writer, emcee and blogger, Kojo Baffoe is a busy man with a full schedule. However, he spent time with the Randburg Sun to tell us a little about what he’s been up to since hanging up his editor boots.

“I quit my job as editor to spend more time with my family because I was always away at work and that kept me really busy,” he said. The German-born Baffoe said his upbringing was the force behind his success as he’s been working since he was a young man.

“I planned my degree with my father and it has allowed me to get into the different aspects of storytelling and content creation,” he added. With a Bcom degree obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Baffoe is a man of multiple talents, which he uses in his many ventures.

“I am not beholden to any platform; we live in a multi-media world where what is important is the story that is being told,” he explained. He further expounded that the media industry has expanded to include print, video and television, all at the same time. During the past 20 years, Baffoe has had more than 15 jobs, beginning his working journey with his father, while still living in Lesotho.

“After my mother died in Uganda, my father relocated my siblings and I to Lesotho, where he was a lecturer. After university, I travelled a lot between South Africa and Lesotho but in 1998 when the political unrest in Lesotho began, I then chose to settle in South Africa,” Baffoe pointed out.

The father of two described himself as an introvert and added that his wife of 14 years, Estelle, was the extrovert. “I prefer watching sports, smoking cigars and reading books at home and I will usually work while my family sleeps,” the bike enthusiast said. He attributed shared values as the secret of success to his marriage.
