Three suspects arrested in Kya Sand

KYA SAND – The arrested suspects are already linked to some incidents which were reported in Honeydew and Randburg police stations.

Douglasdale police invaded Kya Sand Informal Settlement this morning, 16 August and arrested three suspects who were in possession of stolen items.

The three are already linked to two other crime incidents of armed robbery that were reported to the Honeydew and Randburg police stations.

Captain Fritz Kriel from Douglasdale police confirmed that three suspects were charged with being in possession of stolen property and dangerous weapons. “We also confiscated three toy firearms, which look exactly like genuine firearms,” he said.

Police are now investigating whether the suspects were involved in the recent spate of armed robberies, which occurred in Chartwell and Farmall in the Douglasdale police precinct. “Victims will be contacted for an identity parade as we continue to investigate these suspects,” he concluded.

One of Kya Sand’s residents and community leader, Billy Modikwe, said it was a scuffle between police and suspects. He explained that the suspects were trying to fight the police for about an hour. “They were staying here in Kya Sand; they even have shacks,” he said.

Details: Douglasdale Police, 011 699 1300.
