Armed robbers steal cellphones, airtime and cash

FONTAINEBLEAU –Three armed robbers target small shop.

An armed robbery took place at Alvee Supermarket on Rabie Street.

Manager, Norman Emdad, said that at 7.30pm on 17 May, he was standing outside of the store. “I went inside to help my customer who was buying bread, the next second a man came inside and said, ‘this is a robbery’,” said Emdad.

He explained how the suspect pointed a gun at him and his customer. “He ordered us to lay down on the floor. He came around to the till and demanded that I do not press any panic buttons.”

Emdad added how the suspect asked where the money and airtime was. “He then made me open the till and took all of the cash that was inside, he also took our cellphones,” Emdad said.

According to him a couple walked in shortly before the robbery ended and they were also robbed of their personal items.

Linden SAPS operations manager, Captain Alex Vermaak said, “From what we can tell there were three armed suspects that pretended to be customers.”

“It was reported that as the suspects left they fired off a shot at a bystander but fortunately missed. We are still in the process of investigating the matter.” added Capt Vermaak.
