WARNING: Ferndale runs dry

RANDBURG – Water tanks will be provided during water restriction.

There will be water interruptions in some Randburg suburbs due to planned maintenance.

The water supply across the City of Johannesburg is normal, with reservoir levels across the city in a satisfactory position.

Johannesburg Water will implement planned a service interruption on 28 April for maintenance in Ferndale and extentions.

All streets in this area will be affected. Water will be switched off until 6pm. Restoration will take place between 6pm and midnight.

The reason for the repair is a major burst-welding on steel pipe in Pine Avenue.

Water tanks to be provided at the following sites:

  • Republic Road corner Braam Fischer Drive
  • Pretoria Avenue and Harley Street
  • Hill Street and Kent Avenue
  • Main Avenue and Republic Road
  • Republic Road and Pine Avenue

Residents are reminded that level 2 water restrictions are still in place and must be adhered to. Level 2 water restrictions according to section 44 (3) of the Water Services Bylaw states that all consumers are forthwith compelled:

  • Not to water and irrigate their gardens from 6am and 6pm every day;
  • Not to fill their swimming pools with municipal water; and
  • Not to use hosepipes to wash their cars, paved areas, etc.

Water saving tips

  • Don’t leave taps dripping;
  • Take shallow baths; and
  • Use bathwater or grey-water to water the garden.

“We urge residents to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg, and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87,” said Joburg Water External Communication Officer Eleanor Mavimbela.
