Silver for the City of Gold

JOBURG – Central Gauteng water polo teams do their province proud in the Water Polo Currie Cup in Durban.

The Central Gauteng School’s Water Polo A and B teams returned home on 24 April after competing in the Water Polo Currie Cup in Durban.

The U18 Central Gauteng A team, vice captained by Tristan Fin of Parktown Boys’ High School, and captained by Tom Eicher of St Stithians College, was the first Gauteng team to play in the finals of the Water Polo Currie Cup. They played against the Western Province, but unfortunately lost 12–8, making them the silver medal winners.

The B team had an up-and-down tournament losing 11–10 to KwaZulu-Natal, but winning 20–8 to the Eastern Province. According to A team coach, Dave Hansen, the B team had a very tough group that they competed in, but he added that people have to watch out for the team as they are a very strong team.

Hansen said that he is very proud of the A team as they had a very good tournament. “I believe that the best two teams of the Currie Cup played in the final,” concluded Hansen.
