JG inspires at sports day

LINDEN – Hoërskool Linden hosts rugby matches while a special guest watches on.

Hoërskool Linden hosted Hoërskool Hoogenhout for an action-packed day of sports. The school was crowded with sports enthusiasts on 16 April who all came out to show their support.

The glorious weather brought with it the desire for victory from both schools. As each player made their way onto the field, their passion pulsated straight to the hearts of the fans.

The day had the U14A, U15A, U16A, 2nd and 1st team rugby teams play throughout the day in hopes that they would be victors.

To make the day even more unforgettable, spectators and pupils were excited to see JG Oosthuizen come back to see his school play the sport he loves dearly. Oosthuizen brought the community of Linden together after news of his freak accident in January that left him a paraplegic left all who know him stunned.

He was joined by his supportive family and surrounded by friends and teachers who all cheered for him. His mother, Ezeth, explained how the past four months have been challenging .”Although it has been hard, JG’s tenacity, and patience has been so inspiring,” said Ezeth. She went to add that she has appreciated all the love and support the community has given JG.

JG conveyed that the day had been great as he got to spend it with his friends. He went on to add that he does not think he would have managed without all the support he received from his family and the community. He further admitted that there have been more good days than bad even with all the frustrations he goes through. “I think there is more to life to appreciate than there is to complain about,” said JG. Adjusting to his new normal has meant to readjust his dreams a little bit. He shared that he plans to complete his Matric and possibly go into motivational speaking to inspire the youth to look past all they might see as obstacles.

JG’s presence permeated the field and it inspired the passionate players to do their ultimate best. The final scores of the day were:

U14A Hoërskool Linden won 14–7

U15A Hoërskool Hoogenhout won 27–16

U16A Hoërskool Linden won 45–12

2nd team Hoërskool Linden won 28–0
