Grade 6s become masterchefs

FONTAINEBLEAU – Pupils from Laerskool Fontainebleau, learned fundamental life skills during mini-masterchef day.

The three judges from Masterchef Australia Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan would have been proud of the Grade 6 pupils of Laerskool Fontainbleau who had a mini-masterchef day recently at the school.

The Grade 6 pupils had to prepare a healthy and balanced breakfast and were then judged by the teachers who had a chance to enjoy the meals. Pupils had to bring their own supplies. The pupils went to school with frying pans, toasters and some mini-chefs even brought microwaves. The pupils had to do all the preparation and cooking in the school hall on the day.

They cooked in groups and some groups showed true creativity. Some groups represented exotic islands, some European countries and some made a traditional South African Boere breakfast.

The pupils needed to do this as part of the practical exercise for a natural science and life orientation mark. The children were very excited and made a major success of the day.
