Is this noisemaker here to stay?

RANDPARK RIDGE – Residents are fed up with City Power’s lack of communication.

City Power installed a large generator on Dale Lace Avenue and Redwood Street to compensate for power outages, but not everyone is happy about this.

Last week a fault at a substation resulted in many parts of Randpark Ridge and surrounding suburbs being left without electricity. City Power installed the generator, presumably to carry out the necessary repairs to fix the fault. While some residents were pleased to have power, others were upset by the noise emanating from the generator.

Ward 126 Councillor Mike Tonkin commented, “I have written letters to City Power management complaining about the generator, as it has been placed in a highly dangerous spot on the road which, as many will know, is a high traffic area.” He added that there are no warning signs around the generator for motorists to heed.

“Aside from the noise, the service from City Power is absolutely shocking. They still have not responded to my complaints or request for information,” added Councillor Tonkin.

Randpark Ridge resident of 40 years, Graeme Moffat said, “I live on Redwood Street, which is directly opposite the generator, and it runs 24 hours a day. It is so loud that we have to close all our windows and doors. Even then it sounds as if it’s in our living room.”

He added that while he is sympathetic to the plights of his neighbours who need the generator, he cannot understand why City Power hasn’t communicated exactly how long the noisemaker will stay.

“Our neighbours around us have also complained to City Power regarding the noise but it seems as though customers and residents are being ignored,” added Moffat.

City Power’s Hloni Motloung commented, “City Power will send a team to investigate the problem. We will keep residents updated with the developments.”

Further comment has been requested from City Power and we await their response.
