No water for over 3 weeks

FERNDALE – Business still without water for over three weeks.

A three-week long water outage has frustrated business owners and workers, and this despite constant communication with Joburg Water.

ACE Packaging telesales consultant Carla Adriaansen, explained how infuriating the entire process has been. The water at the business has been off since 18 February. “The first reference number we received was cancelled as it reflected as ‘fixed’ on Joburg Water’s side,” said Adriaansen.

“We have been shoved from pillar to post speaking to several people who can’t find the problem. We follow up on a daily basis, several times a day,” she said. According to Adriaansen, Joburg Water did replace a water valve, however this turned out to not be the problem.

The business eventually resorted to having a Jojo tank delivered on 1 March to the premises. The water, however was used up by 10 March and a request for a refill was made. Adriaansen called JW to follow up on the situation and was told that their problem would have to wait as there was a burst pipe in Chartwell and that it was of higher priority.

After numerous phone calls, Ward 104 Councillor Mike Wood escalated the situation to the Randburg depot. “I was told that a new pipe would be laid on 14 March and we are yet to see that happen.”

Joburg Water external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela said, “The team is currently working on an alternative to ensure the business park has a water supply.”

Mavimbela added that the team is waiting for a quotation for the work before they can proceed.

Adriaansen and staff are unhappy at the lack of response and concern given to their plight. “We still have to use buckets to flush toilets, wash our hands and deal with our general business.”
