Hobby-X ‘traordinary’

NORTHRIDING – Hobby lovers revelled in tons of exciting activities.

Hobby-X Joburg drew thousands of enthusiastic visitors to an explosion of creativity at the Ticket Pro Dome.

South Africa’s favourite hobby and craft expo opened doors to dreams and inspiration to hundreds of different activities from 3 to 6 March. Gloria Bastos, co-founder of Hobby-X, explained how the expo is aimed at providing the equipment and material to the public to support their hobbies. “These are things and activities that will help you destress and feel a sense of self worth,” added Bastos.

“It is also a way to create an income which we all know is almost a necessity these days. We have brought in business coaches to help the hobby maker become a money maker,” laughed Bastos.

The expo hosted a variety of hobbies such as puzzles, cooking, train sets, aviation, photography and even science. The University of Johannesburg’s Electrical Engineering faculty brought their amazing electric-powered car to the show. Project manager, Cornay Keefer explained that Melita Meyer from King’s School West Rand drove the car to soaring speeds. “The car can reach up to 65km per hour, so that is a great achievement in itself,” said Keefer.

Amazing displays could be seen including a group of retired men who have built massive gears, cranes and mini Ferris wheels, which actually work.

The children who visited the expo had a great time as well with activities that explored creativity and discovery. All in all, Hobby-X Joburg catered to all tastes and every realm of creativity.
