Joburg call centre frustrates resident

STRIJDOM PARK – Joburg Water call centre frustrates residents.

Jurgen Pauli, a business owner at Naaf Street in Strijdom Park, is so frustrated with the City of Joburg call centre.
For the past two weeks, Pauli had been trying to report a sink hole in front of his property as well as the mudded water meter which was installed in his driveway.

He complained that shoddy work was done when a contractor from Joburg Water was replacing water pipes in June last year. “When they started everything looked professional,” he said.
He complained that everything changed ever since the project was done. He complained that the contractor cut the fire hydrant on the pavement. “We spent days without water. No warning and when asked, they just promised to fix,” he continued.
He further explained that vehicles ran into the hole and he was not permitted to fix the water meter as it is municipality property.
“My wife called them, I have called them. Municipality is worse, they tell you about water outages around the whole of Joburg when you actually require assistance,” he said.

Surrie Vorster from the AA Auction in the same street complained that a vehicle ran into the hole on 17 February. “Six people lifted the bakkie which landed on that hole,” she said.
She further explained that mostly elderly people travel on that road when they go to attend the auction at their company. She said motorists who were not familiar with the road often drive into the hole.
“There is always a pile of soil when it rains. This road is always flooded, we need to repair that hole,” she concluded.
Joburg Water external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela advised that there are several ways to log a call including using the 24-hour water hotline on 0860 562 874; JW SMS line on 082 653 2143; email address: customer@jwater.co.za or twitter handle @jhbwater and Facebook page which is Johannesburg Water.
She further explained that sometimes it took long for customers to get through due to the large volume of calls coming through.
David Sibiya, JW spokesperson, concluded that the entity would send an inspector to assess the damage caused.
