Bram Fischer Drive pipe saga continues

FERNDALE – A planned water interruption on 24 February could be the answer to a two-month-long water leak on Bram Fischer Drive.

The leaking water pipe on Bram Fischer Drive has been a major issue and obstruction since December last year.

As previously reported, the pipe along Bram Fischer Drive is very old and needs to be replaced. On 23 January, workers from Joburg Water came to repair the leak, but left the hole open as well as a pile of dirt, that obstructed two lanes and the pavement.

It is believed that the repaired pipe started leaking again. Joburg Water external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela commented, “The Johannesburg Water, Randburg depot is aware of the issue and will be attending to it as soon as they have the right materials to fix the issue.”

Ward 102 Councillor, David Potter said that there was an issue with the repair made a few weeks ago. “There will be a planned water shut-down on 24 February to effect repairs to an air valve,” said Councillor Potter. He further explained that the delay in the backfilling and reinstatement of Bram Fischer Drive is a result of the issues with the pipe and its repair.

“I hope that post the 24 February repairs, Bram Fischer Drive can be reinstated and the road fully opened again,” concluded Councillor Potter. Mavimbela confirmed that a water shut-down will take place on 24 February.
