Linden Police officer shot while off duty

LINDEN – Gunman in a white VW Golf is on the run after shooting a police officer.

A police officer from Linden Police station was shot in Hillbrow on 24 January at around 6.30pm.

Constable Tshifhiwa Mutshinyani was off-duty and with a friend in Hillbrow when he was shot and injured.

Allegedly, an unknown male approached Const Mutshinyani and his friend and accused them of staring at his girlfriend whom he was walking with and that is when an argument broke out. The suspect then proceeded to his vehicle and pulled out a pistol which he pointed at Const Mutshinyani and his friend. The friend ran away and the suspect shot Const Mutshinyani at close range which injured him below the left eye. The suspect fled the scene in his white VW Golf with his girlfriend. Const Mutshinyani was taken to a local private hospital and is in a stable condition.

“The police are investigating a case of attempted murder, and if anyone has information they can contact the Hillbrow Police Station on 011 488 6511 or call the crime stop line on 08600 10111 or alternatively, send an anonymous tip-off on 32211,” said Linden Police corporate communications officer, Constable Carol Mulamu.
