GALLERY: Ring the bell to begin

RANDPARK RIDGE – Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge welcomes its Grade 1 pupils with a bell ceremony.

Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge held a bell ceremony on 22 January for their Grade 1 pupils as a way to welcome them to the school they will call home for the next coming years.

Principal Hilton Scott lead the ceremony and welcomed parents and pupils to the event. In his speech, Scott gave the analogy of a person being forced to navigate their way through a dark room and subsequently needing a torch to show them the way. He further went on the explain to the pupils and parents that life is like that dark room and to see your way through it you need help and a guiding force.

“Coming to a new school can sometimes feel daunting – you wonder if you will make friends, will the teachers like you, are friends going to be nice people,” said Principal Scott. “As this is all a new environment, you don’t really know where to go and end up lost.”

He further explained that when one is lost, they can always find their way because of a light that will never die out – that light being the one God gave them in the Bible. He went on to say that God’s word is their light and faith in Him will bring success. He also added that when the Grade 1s get to Grade 7, it is then that they will see how God’s light never failed them and helped them get to their final year of primary school.

The bell ceremony, which started about four years ago, is to signify the announcement of something. At the ceremony the Grade 1 pupils got up class by class and stood in line to await the time they could ring the bell and thereafter receive a certificate. This whole process was watched on not only by the parents but by the Grade 7s too, who not so long ago, had the same special day. This year they too will ring the bell but theirs will signify their triumphant exit.
