GALLERY: Great start to the year at Trinityhouse North Riding

NORTH RIDING – Pupils were prepared on the first day of school to start off the new year.

Today marked the first day of eager pupils returning to school in most schools around Gauteng. Grade Rs and Grade 2 pupils who were accompanied by their parents were welcomed by the teachers and staff at Trinityhouse in North Riding.

Grade 1 pupils were officially started on their journey into big school where they dressed in adorable uniforms and carried over-sized school bags filled with school stationery and essentials.

Grade 1 teacher Lara Hutton said that children settled in quite easily and they had very few tears which made it easier for them to interact with each other.

“On their first day the Grade 1 pupils did a lot of activities such as drawing pictures of themselves and also got a tour of the school,” said Hutton.

Some of the Grade Rs had a harder time saying goodbye to their parents and starting a new chapter in their lives. Grade R teacher Deirdre Niehaus said that the school which only has one Grade R class plan to play hard and learn a lot this year.

Trinityhouse North Riding Principal Lana Meintjes said that the morning went well and that the Grade 1s were very proud to wear their uniforms.

“For 2016 we have a number of plans that will be happening at the school. To start off the year we plan on hosting a sunset picnic on 22 January to welcome parents,” said Meintjies.
