GALLERY and VIDEO: Three major burst pipes in a single day

NORTHCLIFF – Water supply interruptions in the upper part of Northcliff, all extensions in Linden and Blairgowrie as Joburg Water repairs the burst pipes.

Three pipes burst in Northcliff and Linden on the afternoon of 16 December leaving kilolitres of water flooding the roads in these suburbs. The bursts occurred at the corner of Judges Avenue and Republic Road in Cresta, corner Mimosa Avenue and Bagley Terrace Street in Northcliff and Ellen Street in Linden. Resident Elize Fourie said there was chaos with kilolitres of water gushing down the streets. “Roads were flooded and inaccessible,” she said.

She further explained that there were no emergency personnel or assistance from Joburg Water.

Joburg Water confirmed in a statement that was sent out by the entity’s external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela that there were three burst pipes.

“Two have been fixed and a team is currently busy repairing the third one [in Cresta]. We estimate that repairs will be completed by 3pm this afternoon [17 December],” the statement read.

The upper part of Northcliff and all extensions in Linden and Blairgowrie were affected by these bursts.

Ward 88 Councillor Pat Richards said the entity was repairing all the pipes. She further explained that they are still investigating what could have caused those bursts.

Mavimbela concluded that repairs started on 16 December. “The team was working throughout the night. Unfortunately, we had to close supply while doing repairs,” she concluded.
