GALLERY: Refreshments for oncology patients

PRESIDENT RIDGE – Pick n Pay Brightwater Commons donated bread for those fighting cancer.

Through gracious helping from Pick n Pay Brightwater Commons patients are given a small treat during their battle with cancer.

Susan Elder, a member of CanAssist Support Team, visits the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital Oncology Ward 495 every Tuesday to support those struggling with cancer.

“I thought that aside from giving them our support, that we could brighten their day with a few refreshments.”

Through this thought Elder approached Heidi Pretorius, the front manager for perishable goods at Pick n Pay Brightwater Commons. Pretorius said, “When Susan approached me about helping out the patients at the ward I was more than happy to help and I knew that our manager would love to help too.”

They donate 10 loaves of bread to Elder every Monday so that she is able to make some delicious sandwiches for refreshments to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital Oncology Ward 495.
