Councillor David Potter’s festive season message

WARD 102 – One item on Councillor David Potter's Christmas wish list is for residents to log complaints so that the City will solve them.

Ward 102 Councillor David Potter’s festive season message is as follows:

I need residents to Look and Log, and then escalate if issues remain unresolved. The City will not fix, if they do not know. Log those water leaks, potholes and street light faults. If you do not, others probably won’t either.

Ward 102 Projects

One of the main projects completed during 2015 was the upgrade of the parking lot of the Randburg Home Affairs. See story here: Home Affairs parking officially open While this was not in my Ward, it is on the boundary and the upgrade is a huge improvement to Randburg as a whole. Further to this, the opening of the new DSTV City in Randburg has and will bring huge value to Randburg.

DSTV/MultiChoice has been a fantastic property owner in Randburg and we look forward to their continued investment into the area. The Caltex along Bram Fischer Drive also had a facelift and added to the upgrade of Randburg. The Joburg Roads Agency resurfaced, among others, Peter Place and Republic Road in 2015, which was a great surprise.

Main issues which required attention from the authorities

A lack of law enforcement remains a concern. While JMPD exists, the efforts of their work are hardly sustained and are never consistent. Enforcement needs both sustainability and consistency to be successful. The Randburg CBD and near surrounds remain a concern with regard to litter. While the majority of the CBD is covered by the Central Improvement District, Bordeaux Drive is out of the CID and is often left in a mess by commuters, taxis and pedestrians. The management and security in and around our green open spaces remain a concern.

Look and Log Campaign

The Look and Log campaign remained a focus where residents are encouraged to report issues they notice to the City officials. If issues have been logged but not resolved within reasonable time, then my office escalates the issues to the relevant City officials until hopefully, resolution. Resident associations form an integral part of a suburb and I give thanks to the street and suburb committees who work tirelessly to ensure their suburbs are maintained adequately. My ward committee has been an invaluable source of assistance in looking and giving the ward direction.

In closing, I wish all my residents and businesses happy holidays and give thanks to the City officials that are responsive to issues in the ward. In 2016, vote!
