Claudia Borland (9) from Curro Aurora in Sundowner has been selected to represent South Africa during the finals of the annual Face of the Globe competition in 2016.
According to the website, the pageant was founded in 2012 by the winner of the ‘Best Pageant Director’ Lucie Hide who is also a former international beauty queen from England.
The website explained the competition is open to girls aged five and upwards, with the annual grand finals held in London and Disneyland Paris from 2 to 9 April 2016.
“The competition aims in bringing together finalists from all ages and cultures to each experience the magic of feeling like a princess in Disneyland,” said the website.
Belinda Borland, Claudia’s mother said Claudia started modelling at the age of five and has entered numerous competitions since then but this is the first time she has entered the Face of the Globe.
“Claudia is very exited about the competition as she enjoys competing. She strongly believes she has what it takes,”said Belinda.
She added that as part of Claudia’s duties she needs to raise funds for the Rainbow Child Foundation that helps underprivileged children in various ways such as providing schools with play pumps, sanitation, farm seeds bank, and HIV awareness programs.
Belinda further said if Claudia achieves her goal of raising R80 000, 10 per cent of the profits will go to her personal charity, The Lighthouse Baby Shelter – a shelter for children that have been abandoned, abused, neglected and for HIV orphans.
She requested the community to please support Claudia in raising enough funds so that her local charity can also benefit from it.
Belinda said she believes this competition will create a new platform for Claudia to start something new and valuable once she is back.
