UIF claims are still delayed

RANDBURG - The reader raises questions, again, about the procedures that are used for UIF claims payment.

Unemployed resident writes:

I am writing this email to you in hope that the Randburg Sun will be able to report the above again.

I am a single mother who is supporting 4 people in my household. I was diagnosed in January 2015 with an incurable cancer called Multiple Myeloma and unfortunately I am unable to work.

I was in hospital from January 2015 until June 2015 that is when I went to apply for my UIF.

The procedure was lengthy as I had to have my doctor from the General Hospital to fill in the forms as well as my x employer. Finally

in August after the Randburg Sun wrote the story on the Randburg Branch I was paid.

It has been 2 months since my last payment and when I went through two weeks ago they informed me that they were going to pay me between 7-10 days this has now passed.

Then yesterday I went through only to be told that they were off line and I should come back today.

When I arrive the security company told me that the supervisor was on lunch and that I must only come through in the mornings as that’s when they see the unemployed clients.

When I explained to them that I can only make it if one of my friends are able to take me they allowed me to see the supervisor who in turned sent an email and all of a sudden they were off line again.

He also stated to me that it was head office that is delaying the payment and I should check with the Randburg branch next week Friday if I hadn’t been paid.

When I returned home I decided to contact the Head Office to find out as to why I wasn’t paid. They informed me that they can see I submitted my

form but it is the Randburg branch that does the payments and I should go back to them.

This is so stressing for me as I can not walk or sit for a long periods of time. I have debts to pay off as well as ensuring that my family has food

on the table. I also believe that what ever I spent when I was healthy I should pay it off. I strongly believe that the people of South Africa should

know what is happening and hopefully someone in the Labour Department will investigate the Randburg Branch and sort nonsense out.

Please help me by reporting this in the papers as surely I am not the only person that is battling to get funds out of the UIF Randburg Department.
