Soccer tournament raises funds for orphans

MALANSHOF – Oasis Haven hosted the Education Cup to raise school fees for 2016.

Oasis Haven hosted the Education Cup at the Randburg Sports Complex, Malanshof, on 3 October. The event was a fundraising endeavour to provide school fees for the orphans in the care of Oasis Haven. Teams were encouraged to participate in the 10-a-side soccer competition with the entrance fees going toward the non-profit organisation.

A total of 12 teams participated in the competition. R8 000 was raised for school fees for next year. The Punishers were the team that won on the day.

“It was a good family fun-day, everyone was really in the spirit of giving,” said Ivan Achiume, development manager at Oasis Haven, “People were willing to give to a good cause.” Achiume was happy to see that many mixed-gender teams participated. He was proud that the event was well-attended. “It’s not enough just to be a non-profit [organisation], you need to be a non-profit [organisation] that fits into people’s lifestyles.

Oasis Haven is a non-profit organisation based in Robin Hills that cares for abandoned and HIV positive children, through placement into adoptive families and family homes for children waiting to be adopted.
