JDA promises job opportunities in Kya Sand

KYA SAND – JDA promises employment to the residents of Kya Sand informal settlement.

Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) has promised job opportunities for residents of informal settlement on 1 October.

The JDA was appointed by Social Development Department to commence the phase 2 upgrade of the Golden Harvest Drug and Rehabilitation Centre located in Ward 101.

Project development manager of JDA Joselyne Davids said the unskilled labourers and Community liaison officer (CLO) of the project would be sourced from Kya Sand.

She explained that the skilled and semi-skilled labour would be sourced from the whole of ward 96.

Sydney Ramutla of City Power and Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane address the residents.

“We will hire people from this area, we are here to let them know about the project and possible employment opportunities,” explained Davids.

Various public entities such as Pikitup, City Power, JDA, Joburg Road Agency (JRA) were invited to communicate with residents about their latest developments.

Sydney Ramutla of City Power told residents that they were rolling out a project to improve the network signal in Bloubosrand and they also would source labour in Kya Sand.

“We engaged the residents first and next Wednesday (7 October) we will be starting our project,” Ramutla said.

Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane said the aim of the public meeting was to inform residents about developments, projects and possible jobs that may be available in his ward.

“The good news is that residents are informed about various opportunities available to them and they will refrain from blaming the councillor,” Mafokwane explained.

It was established that residents were planning to protest as they were infuriated by the possible demarcation of Ward 96.

“Residents should tell us why they want to march,” Ward councillor said.

He concluded that he would continue to engage the community and give residents any information they need to ensure good governance.
