GALLERY and VIDEO: Pharrell Willams’ epic Joburg performance

NORTH RIDING– Pharrell Williams gives a spectacular performance at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.

American mega star Pharrell Williams performed for the first time in Johannesburg at the Ticketpro Dome last night to excited fans.

The atmosphere inside and outside the venue was cheerful despite the threat of more protests from the Boycott Divestments and Sanctions movement who protested at Williams concert in Cape Town earlier in the week. BDS are protesting Williams working with Woolworths which they view as anti-Palestine.

Williams was joined on stage by dancers The Bae’s who were all dressed in pieces from his Addias range and two backing vocalists. The venue was packed with thousands of fans who were thrilled to witness the ‘Happy’ hit maker perform songs from his initial group N.E.RD , as a solo performer and his renowned collaborations with other artists. The crowd sang along to hits like Drop it like it’s hot featuring Snoop Dog, Blurred lines featuring Robin Thick and T.I and his mega-hit Happy.

Local group from Cape Town Goodluck was the opening act for the American superstar and performed house and upbeat tunes the crowd enjoyed. Dressed in a black T-shirt, navy denims, he had the crowd singing along to their favourite tunes. During his performance he spoke fondly about women and children being the future generation of this country.

At the end of his performance the Soweto Gospel Choir along with a choir from Colin Mann Primary School in Germiston sang a rendition of his latest singe Freedom. Willams mentioned that Nelson Mandela was his inspiration behind the song.
