GALLERY: Residents clean during Spruit Day

BORDEAUX – Residents clean up a section of the river behind Old Parks Sport Club field.

Residents of Bordeaux and Craighall Park joined other residents during a Spruit Day cleaning on 19 September.

They cleaned part of the river behind Old Parks Sport Club.

Bordeaux South Resident’s Association chairperson Chris Thomas explained that despite the annual Spruit Day clean-up they also do regular cleaning at the river.

“Today we also asked the vagrants to help us,” Thomas said.

According to him, vagrants were mostly to blame for the filthy garbage found along the river.

“We also joined other resident associations who are cleaning up in other sections,” he said.

One of the volunteers, David Sothernby, chose to participate in the clean-up because he felt it is a good community initiative.

“We all live here and we all need to make an effort to clean our area,” Sothernby said.

Sue Wilson from Craighall Park Resident’s Association, said, “We did one in June last year, however we clean regularly.”

Joe Massyn and Chris Thompson were there to help in the clean-up too. “It is a calm day, so we decided to come and help,” said Thompson.
