School pupils were not affected by the robbery

BRYANSTON – School principal insists that pupils were not affected as the incident occurred during the night.

The principal of The King’s School and Preparatory School in Bryanston John Pilkington insisted that pupils were not affected by a robbery incident that occurred on 14 September.

He said that two suspects robbed a group of young adults who were practising soccer at the school during the night.

“The incident did not happen during school hours as other media have reported. Our school children and staff were not there,” explained Pilkington.

Douglasdale SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said two suspects were arrested after the incident. “They will appear at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court when the investigations have been finalised,” said WO Muthan.

One of the victims, Damian Ristovi thanked Douglasdale SAPS for responding promptly to the incident. He wrote on Facebook that towards the end of their training, armed men jumped over the fence between the grounds and the N1 highway. The suspects walked towards the players, brandishing guns and while they were loading their firearms, they fired off a shot.

According to Ristovi’s statement, the suspects allegedly stole sports bags that were on the grand stand with phones, clothes, wallets, car keys and money.

“Once the police came to the grounds, along with a few other security companies and family members with spare keys, Jason Miguel Vicente figured we could track his phone through his g-mail and Brett Jones accompanied the police officers tracking them,” the post read.

After a quick chase robbers were caught and the players’ belongings were recovered.
