POLL: Is the Springbok squad racially balanced?

JOBURG – Do you believe that the 2015 Springbok squad has been accurately represented.

The Agency for New Agenda (ANA) takes the South Africa Rugby Union (SARU) to the Pretoria High Court on 2 September on grounds of failure to accurately represent South Africa in the squad selection.

The South African Springbok selection was made on 28 August for the Rugby World Cup 2015. According to reports, ANA claimed that the 31 man squad was, “built on racially-exclusionary and racially-biased criteria.”

The SANRU website said on their Strategic Transformation Plan that the, “Department of Sport and Recreation has in place a target of at least 50 per cent generic black representation for a team [by 2010].” It further added, “The Springbok team 2015 is to increase black player representation to 30 per cent (seven players in squad of 23). From the seven generic black players two must be black Africans.”
