Policewomen from the Randburg, Douglasdale and Diepsloot police stations in conjunction with JMPD conducted Operation Basadi (women) on 20 August in various areas in Randburg.
The operation started at the Randburg CBD, proceeded to the corner of Norman Avenue and Main Road in Bryanston and was expected to last until 5pm.
They searched motorists, handed out safety tips pamphlets and they also checked the validity of licence disks.
Operation organiser Sergeant Cookie Maphanga explained that Operation Basadi seeks to signify that women are in charge of their lives, communities, families and work in celebration of August [Women’s Month].
“This is the second cluster operation done by policewomen in the Honeydew Cluster. We are basically distributing pamphlets, educating the public about domestic violence and breaking the silence on sexual offences,” said Sgt Maphanga.
Major Amanda Peche from Douglasdale SAPS indicated that they were also educating women and children about normal safety precautions.
Maj Peche added that the public needs to be educated more often about domestic violence and measure steps of reporting those incidents.
