Cresta paid-parking woes

CRESTA – The Cresta paid-parking system seems to still have some hiccups.

The Cresta Shopping Centre launched its paid parking system on 3 August and it proves to be a thorn in some shopper’s sides.

The Cresta team held a public meeting to address concerns around the paid parking system on 30 July.

However, shoppers are still complaining about the price of the parking tariff. Grant Bruce of Roosevelt Park said, “I was a little irritated when, at about 2.30pm on 10 August, after spending just half an hour at Cresta to donate blood, I was charged R8 for (uncovered) parking.”

Another resident Malcolm Cunnington commented, “The centre [should] offer free outdoor parking, Monday to Thursday, inclusive, for pensioners. This was a very important point and one which the centre management agreed to look into [at the public meeting].”

Cresta Centre management replied to some concerns. “The Management of Cresta Shopping Centre wishes to clarify, to its valued customers, the reason for the free one-hour parking benefit not being available this past long weekend. The reason being that the flat rate charge was applicable, which is also in effect on public holidays.”

They further stated, “With immediate effect, [we, the centre] will be implementing a 30-minute free parking period on all weekends and public holidays applicable in the open parking areas.” The comment was issued on 14 August.
