GALLERY: High tea in aid of the disabled

BOSKRUIN – Randburg Bowls Club hosts a high tea to raise funds for Ann Harding Cheshire Home.

The Randburg Bowls Club donated R2 000 to Ann Harding Cheshire Home on 17 August. This was the result of a high tea that had been hosted at the club in Boskruin on 10 August, in honour of Women’s Day. Event organisers, Wendy Lobley and Terry Turner chose to donate the proceedings of the high tea to Ann Harding Cheshire Home.

The successful tea was filled with laughter. “We even had some of the men dressing up in ladies’ clothing,” said Turner. The event is set to become an annual one and Turner expressed an intention to involve Ann Harding Cheshire Home even more in the future.

The bowls club has a good relationship with the Home. Every Monday some of the residents are taken on a bus to make use of the bowling greens and equipment. Cheshire Homes is a 24-hour care facility for physically disabled patients. “Most of our residents are wheelchair-bound,” explained Jackie Kyle, fundraising manager at the Home.

“We take in people who have medical aids that have run out, people who have families that cannot care for them, as well as others who need care.” The Home is predominantly funded by donations.
