Hammer baby-killer is arrested

KENSINGTON B – Hammer killer has been caught after three weeks.

The 25-year-old alleged killer of a three-month-old baby was arrested in the Honeydew Cluster during the operations the last week.

According to the spokesperson for the Honeydew Cluster, Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, the murder suspect was found in Bram Fischer Road, and had been on the run for about three weeks. His alleged accomplice was caught soon after the incident.

It is alleged that during an argument with his girlfriend (the baby’s mother) the man assaulted both the mother and baby girl with a hammer in Diepsloot Extension 2 about three weeks ago.

The suspect had allegedly accused the mother of adultery.

“He reportedly denied paternity of the deceased baby – rejected the idea that he was the deceased’s biological father, which is understood to be the motivation behind the beating,” said WO Mavimbela.

Unfortunately the baby allegedly died from serious head injuries. The mother was treated for less serious upper body injuries. She has since been discharged.

The murder accused made a brief appearance in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court late last week. He waived his right to a formal bail application.

He is expected to appear in court with his co-accused on the 1 September.
