Armed robbers flee with cellphones worth over a R1 million

NORTH RIDING – Suspects stormed into the shop and held the staff at gunpoint.

Honeydew Police launched a manhunt on the evening of 9 July for a group of suspects, following the armed robbery at the Vodacom store in Northgate Shopping Centre.

According to Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale, “It is alleged that the suspects stormed into the shop at the shopping mall and held the staff at gunpoint.” She explained that the suspects allegedly stole cellphones worth over R1 million rand and fled the scene in a Nissan Duke and a white BMW.

“No one was injured and no shots were fired,” said Lt Col Mogale. She added that no one had been arrested so far.

Northgate Shopping Centre marketing manager Natalie Berkhout said the centre management was aware of the incident. “There were no injuries reported. Security is investigating,” Berkhout said.
