Man flung from bakkie in crash

RANDBURG — Vehicle crash leaves a 29-year-old man critically injured on the R512.

A 29-year-old man was critically injured on Thursday morning on the R512 near the R552 when the vehicle he was travelling in crashed against the barrier.

The man was found lying on the roadway by Netcare 911 paramedics. According to a statement from Netcare 911, the injured man was apparently travelling on the back of the utility vehicle.

“The vehicle had a canopy on at the back and with the impact of the crash, the canopy was flung from the back of the vehicle as well and the man landed about 20 metres away,” said Santi Steinmann, media liaison officer at Netcare 911.

During assessment on scene, ”paramedics found that he sustained serious injuries during the accident. He was treated and transported to the hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic. Details surrounding the cause of the crash are under police investigation,” Steinmann concluded.
