Grade 4s teach their parents a thing or two

FERNDALE – The Spark School Grade 4 pupils showed their parents what they have been learning at school on 6 June.

On a windy winter’s day, the Grade 4 pupils of Spark School in Ferndale came to school for a picnic which promised fun-filled activities to showcase what they have been learning at school. The school grounds were divided into two sections – one for literacy and one for numeracy.

“This is a family event. We have been hosting picnics for each grade from the beginning of May,” explained Spark School principal, Bailey Thomson. She further explained the importance of parents being involved in their children’s schooling career, “Children need to get a sense that their parents care and want to be involved in their lives, that is why this is a great way to do just that.”

Spark School parent Leanetse Matutoane reiterated the importance of children seeing that their parents care for them and their academic career, “It is all about developing your child.”

Best friends Njabulo Mahumane and Devon Kelly explained that they were really enjoying themselves. “I am so grateful for today, I get to spend more time with my best friend from kindergarten. I am glad that I can show him where I go to school,” said an excited Kelly.

” I am so glad that the school has academic days where we as parents can come and see the development of our child and the kind of environment they are learning in every day,” said parent Jeannette Saayman.
